IntroductionFarm250

What is the Farm250 AD system?

Quite simply: Pollution control, materials recycling and energy recovery. It treats and converts organic residues into useful end-products and energy using both aerobic and anaerobic digestion techniques. The patented multi-stage digestion process naturally controls odours, diseases, parasites and weed-seeds.

The feedstock is pasteurised and converted into useful materials; pollution (including: odours, ammonia, pathogens and parasites) is controlled and the resulting biogas can be either be converted into electricity through a generator or be used to power boilers as an alternative to natural gas.

This new generation of hybrid aerobic and anaerobic digester has been designed for family-sized farms, communities and food processors, to enable them to be sustainable whilst reducing costs and minimising environmental impact. The patented two or three-stage digestion allows a much wider variety of feedstock, a more compact biogas plant and an increase in reliability.

The Farm250 is ideal for organic arable with crop rotation, a 100 to 200 cow dairy, 300-sow piggery, vegetable and/or protected cropping.

The benefits are reduction of fertiliser costs, reduction of pollution problems and energy and materials recovery. The nutrients retained are those that would normally be washed or evaporated away. This means the host can be at least carbon zero.

The Farm250 is rated at 15 to 35kW, depending on the feedstock, if the main energy output is electricity. Biogas can be upgraded to biomethane or compressed natural gas (CNG) for use in heating, cooking, tractors and other road vehicles. It is complimentary to other renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar and micro-hydro. With this new generation of digesters, the farm and local community could meet all its energy and fertiliser needs.

The proposed facility utilises natural anaerobic microbes to breakdown the waste and is accelerated using excess heat from the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generator(s) and/or biogas-fuelled boiler(s). The process is carried out in sealed vessels to thermophilic temperatures which controls odours, pathogens and parasites.

These high temperatures are also sufficient to inactivate micro-organisms, which cause food poisoning and diseases including Botulism, Foot and Mouth, Salmonella and E. coli. This will also control and eliminate fungal spores, which can occur during aerobic composting and can cause health problems like 'Farmer's Lung’

The second phase of the process captures the methane rich biogas given off by the microbes.

Naturally turning your food, farming, horse stable and garden waste into:

  • Clean Energy
  • Slow Release Fertiliser
  • Compost

The combined savings made can result in a return on investment in less than 10 Years.
